We are a few weeks into our pre-k curriculum and I just realized that I never shared this post about our preschool curriculum. We absolutely loved it and it was a  highlight for us over the last year. As a former preschool teacher and someone who has considered creating my own pre-school curriculum; All Aboard the Animal Train is everything I would have hoped to create and more. If you are new around here, we are using My Father’s World (read an overview of My Father’s World here). My daughter could not get enough of the preschool program. She would beg to continue after we had finished for the day. We probably could get through a whole Unit (3 weeks worth) in less than a week if I let her continue each day until she was ready to be done.

This preschool curriculum is very gentle and developmentally appropriate for 3 year olds (and older two year olds). Each unit (3 Weeks) focuses on a different character trait, color, and number. Lessons are designed to help children develop a love of learning as they experience spiritual growth, cognitive development, reading and math readiness.  The “school day” is broken into 4 different categories: Clean-up and Together Time, Story Time, Surprise Time, and Outside Time.

Clean-Up and Together Time

Clean up time is done with both parent and child, working together to clean-up after breakfast, toys, or another task. This leads into together time where the main lessons are completed. The lesson plans for each day are easy to follow with clearly laid-out directions. There are many hands on and sensory activities. Including making popsicles or English muffin pizzas, playdough, an outdoor color hunt, and pretending to be different animals.

Story Time

One of our favorite parts of the curriculum was a carefully curated booklist for each unit. This is an element that My Father’s World has included with each grade level. We are big readers and always looking for fun, high quality books to read together. These lists make it so easy to find great books that go along with our learning units! We have had some of the books included on the list, but we have gotten the majority from the library.

Surprise Time

Surprise Time includes different (mostly) independent activities that are rotated throughout the school year. Some of the activities such as the discovery shapes set, number express, and animal matching cards come with the curriculum. Other activities such as a sensory bin, puzzles, musical instruments, blocks, and working with scissors are created using what you have in your home.

Outside Time

The lessons for each day are short and simple to allow for a lot of time for independent and outside play. Playing outside is very important for children’s development and gross motor skills, nature and science discovery can all be learned through outdoor play and lay a foundation for the future.

In each unit we learned a new scripture verse that goes along with the character trait that we focused on. We read bible stories going along with those themes and had opportunities to talk about these traits and practice them through the different activities. As a Mama, I absolutely loved the special moments that were created through our homeschool day, I loved the way her face lit up when she learned something new, and I loved the way she learned more about God and how to live for him each day. We had multiple times when she heard us talking about something that related to a verse or trait she has learned about and she would be so excited that she understood what we are talking about. I am so grateful for this curriculum and how it is assisting us as we disciple our daughter and help lay a Biblical foundation for her future.
